Is the beef raised locally?
Q: Is your beef certified organic?
A:
Our beef is not certified organic. Using only organic feed sources would raise the cost of our beef significantly.
Q: Are your cattle raised free from antibiotics?
A:
Our beef may receive antibiotic treatments. Infections can cause weight loss or even death. Some infections could spread to other cattle if left untreated. Healthy animals don't receive antibiotics. All animals scheduled for butcher are free from antibiotic residue. Neglecting to medicate animals in need is inhumane.
Q: Is your beef grass fed?
A:
No. "Grass fed" implies only grass has been fed to the cattle. Steers nearing butcher weight are fed a diet high in starch and carbohydrates to create the marbling and finish found in high quality beef.
Q: What sort of questions will the butcher ask when he calls?
A:
Custom slaughter gives customers the ability to have the meat cut to their personal specifications. The butcher will ask questions like "Would you like the sirloin tip in roast or steaks?", "How many steaks per package?", "Would you like stew meat? If so, how many pounds?"
Q: Do your animals receive growth hormones?
A:
No. We don't use any hormone supplements.
Q: Is the beef raised locally?
A:
The steers we raise in Snohomish come to us from cow/calf ranches in Eastern Washington.
